Why I Founded Builders Waikato: A Personal Message from Brad
My name is Brad, and I started Builders Waikato because I kept watching the same thing happen to good South Waikato families.
They would hire a builder on the lowest quote. The builder would win the job, then claw back the margin through undisclosed variations added after the contract was signed. Structural work that was legally required to be done by a Licensed Building Practitioner, including load-bearing wall removal, weathertight systems, and foundation changes, was being done without proper sign-off, leaving homeowners with non-compliant buildings and no real recourse.
And when things got complicated, builders went quiet. Not a call. Not an update. Just silence, and a progress invoice.
I had been in residential construction for over a decade. I knew the technical standards. I knew what it cost to do the job properly. And I knew it did not have to work that way.
So I set up Builders Waikato on a different model: one Licensed Building Practitioner, personally on-site and personally accountable for every element of restricted work. Estimates itemised by line so you know exactly what you are committing to. Written variation orders for anything unexpected, requiring your approval before a single additional hour is worked. Weekly Friday updates so you never wonder what is happening on your build. And a 12-month post-completion walkthrough because the job is not finished when the tools leave.
